Launching out into the deep
On the docks of an ocean front port, a young man from the city and an old fisherman watched as two vessels made their home coming. The first ship was very large and graceful as it moved easily through the sea. The second boat was much smaller and one could readily see that it was over burdened as it slowly groaned its way through the foggy mist. Indeed, the young man from the city was impressed with the great size and splendor of the ocean liner, but the experienced eye of the old fisherman recognized the slow struggle of the other ship meant that it contained a rich cargo. He knew that although this was only a small fishing boat, it had been launched out into the deeper waters where the biggest catch of fish laid waiting for an enterprising crew. Think about it for a moment? For too many of us, the "shallow" waters of life often seem more attractive. When we attempt to venture out into the deep, most often it is to ride aboard some "luxury liner" of our own personal pursuit. Sad but true...too many of us have spent more energy on leisure and recreation than on enterprise for Christ's Kingdom. For certain we live in a affluent day and age where some people think that they are fortunate if they can collect a full day's wage with only having to put in a half day's work. Jesus told His disciples to "Launch out into the deep and lower your nets for a catch..." (Luke 5:4) Today, those who truly desire to be Christ's followers are also challenged to "launch out into the deep". This "deep" place may be represented by costly sacrifice or what may seem to be intolerable inconvenience. Sometimes launching out into the deep requires relentless struggle and often unimaginable difficulty. However, it is in these "deep" waters of life that the Holy Spirit will bring His strength, comfort and peace. Fellow fishermen, won't you please join me in helping to mend the torn knots in our "nets". Then together, let us courageously follow the instructions of our Lord. It is only in the depth of our unselfish commitment and relentless determination that we shall truly be able to bring in the rewarding "catch" of spreading Christ's truth and love to all. Blessings! Hubbard ninth girls basketball vs. West Branch
The Hubbard freshman girls basketball squad hooked up with West Branch at Hubbard High. The game was much anticipated. Hubbard had previously played the Lady Warriors earlier in the season with only a seven player roster due to medical issues. A full roster seemed to be too much for West Branch in this game. Hubbard opened up the first quarter with a 10-2 advantage shooting the ball well and demonstrated a solid defensive effort. Although foul trouble was an issue for the Lady Eagles, they managed to play defense well enough to hold West Branch to limited scoring. The Lady Eagles led 17-7 at the half behind the defensive shutdown by Hubbard's Emily Skebo and Mariah Gordon. A spark off the bench by Abby Mills and Abbey Agler led Hubbard to a 36-17 victory. Krista Julian led all scorers with 14. Haley Turner added 6.
