Brookfield Township Board of Trustees meeting
The first meeting was called to order by President J. Philip Schmidt. The trustees voted unanimously to appoint Gary Lees President of the Board for 2008, to appoint Trustee Schmidt as vice-chairman of the board for 2008, to appoint Trustee Haun to take the minutes in the absence of the clerk; to set the time, date and place for the meeting of the board and to establish rules for the advertising of special meetings in compliance with the Sunshine Law section; to authorize the fiscal officer to transfer funds within the same fund when the situation warrants; to name the chairman of the Board of Trustees as chief executive officer, the township fiscal officer as chief financial officer and the road supervisor as project manager of the trustee road program for 2008' to have township trustees and department heads support citizen groups and non-profit organizations with manpower, materials and equipment within reasonable limits. Notification of special meetings will be made with at least 24 hours notice. In addition, the Township will provide advance written notice of special meetings to anyone who provides the Township with pre-paid postage, self addressed envelopes or post cards. All meetings will be held in compliance with section 121.22(F) of the Ohio Revised Code Sunshine Law. The trustees deferred action to appoint township legal counsel in addition to the prosecutor's offices, to adopt Town Hall and use of the Township Green Regulations. The second meeting was called to order with residents in attendance. The trustees voted unanimously to accept the minutes of the December 2007 meetings, to pay the bills of the month of December amounting to $306,018.27. Clerk Addicott read the gist of the December communications. There were no public comments on the agenda. The fire report was deferred. New Business announced that the Time Warner Cable franchise no longer negotiates rates with the township delivery truck traffic was discussed on Brookfield's Iron St. and the possibility of exploring the idea of selling the van on the internet. Public comments were that the Isaly building has been demolished but the debris need to be removed. A resident question the trustees about Bill HB 560, Removal of Junk Cars. The also discussed the remodeling of the Administration Building.

Creating Health in 2008
Villa Maria Education and Spirituality teaches how to stay younger and healthier in this upcoming program entitled, "Creating Better Health in the New Year." Kindergarten registration for Brookfield Elementary
The requirements needed to enroll a child in kindergarten for the 2008-2009 school year are: a certified copy of birth certificate (mother's maiden name must be on birth certificate), Social Security number, two proofs of residency- must be current utility bill in parent's name or lease agreement. A child will not be enrolled until all items are provided. The immunization requirements for the 2008-2009 school year are: five doses of Dtap/DPT/DT vaccine, four doses of Polio vaccine, three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine, two doses of MMR vaccine, one dose of Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccine, or history of disease. All kindergarten students are required to have written proof of these immunizations on file at their school. This is the state law. If there is a custody case, the paperwork must be current with a case number and signed by the parent and judge. Kindergarten registration for Brookfield and Masury children who will be five years of age by Sept. 30 will be held at Brookfield Elementary School, 115 Anson Way, Sharon, Pa. The dates will be Tuesday, March 11 from 9:30-10:30 a.m., 1-2 p.m., and 5-7 p.m., and Thursday, March 13 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and 12:30-1:30 p.m. Call 724-347-1851 with any questions.

Library announces Jan. 21 closing
The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library will be closed Monday, Jan. 21 in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday. This closing will affect the Main Library in Warren and branches in Brookfield, Cortland, Howland, Liberty and Lordstown. There will be neither Homebound deliveries nor Bookmobile service on that day. Library services will resume Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 9 a.m.
