programs for students. On Sunday, February 7th, a different kind of Super Bowl will take place in many of the area churches and organizations. This "Souper Bowl Sunday" will take place to help the food pantry of our community in giving to the Girard Emmanuel Community Care Center in Girard. On "Souper Bowl Sunday" the youth organizations of many churches will be collecting soup cans and any monetary donations to take to the Care Center. The Girard Methodist Youth Group, MYF, will be collecting these cans during their Sunday church service at 10:45 a.m. or anyone wishing to help can drop off cans at the Methodist Church throughout the week or take them directly to the Emmanuel Center on the comer of Liberty Street and State Street. I think that almost everyone in town has a shirt or two or more that Patrick has created at Knightline. Send a card or remembrance to wish him well as he is recuperating. Many times he and those who work in his business have gone out of their way to create shirts and other items for winning teams to show their "Girard Spirit" with short notice. I hope that many will take time to return their thanks for his efforts over the years and remaining as a business in Girard by sending a card. Get well soon, Patrick. Sympathy is extended to Becky Mohn, her husband Michael, and their family on the death of her father, Karl S. Kistler, 88, a lifetime Niles resident. A 1939 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the Phillipine Islands during World War II. He enjoyed being known as a "gentleman farmer" going back to his earlier years when he farmed with his brother and father in Lordstown and North Jackson. He was the owner and operator of the former family business, the Kistler Insurance Agency for most of his adult life and had also been employed as a millwright. His grandchildren included Sarah Mohn, a GHS Alumni, Sam Mohn of Girard High School and his brothers Nate and Andrew of Girard Intermediate School. Their mother Becky works at Prospect Elementary School with the students there. Karl was a member of the William McKinley Post No. 106 of the American Legion and served as Post Commander. He served on the Board of the Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, serving as President, and was instrumental in forming the rehabilitation aspect of the hospital. Karl was a member of the Niles Trinity Lutheran Church, served on the Church council and supported the Niles School System scholastically, academically, and as a member of the Frontliners, joining during the Tony Mason coaching era. Cards, notes, and rememberances would surely be appreciated by the family. Sylvia HoImes, Girard High School Secretary to the Principal, is recovering from knee surgery at Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in Howland. Cards, notes, and other acknowledgements can be sent to Sylvia at the Rehab Center. Sylvia and husband John have extended a helping hand to many in the Girard Community through the school and church. Both have been long time residents in Girard and many families and individuals have benefited and deeply appreciated the kindnesses and support both John and Sylvia have shown to others. Take time to show how much that has meant by sending a card or other remembrance. Cards and notes can also be sent to Svlvia Holmes in care of Girard High School, 31 North Ward Ave., Girard, Ohio, 44420, and they will be taken to her. Get Well Soon. It was a year ago last Wednesday, January 27th, that my dear mother Jane passed away. It has been a difficult year without her. Gretchen Reed was a close friend of my mother's and as difficult as it was to visit my mother, Gretchen would go and read to her or leave some special gift to brighten her room. As I returned home the other evening, Gretchen had again taken time to leave a comforting book and card knowing how difficult the time has been. Thank you to all who have been so caring and supportive.

February brings a promise Of better days ahead, But sometimes weather changes Bring winter days instead. The snow is often a beautiful sight as it falls serenely to cover the landscape but the winter winds and bitter cold are not to my liking at all. The temperatures drop to the single numbers and wind to chill the night even more makes anyone want to stay indoors cozy by the fireside until winter's wrath is no more. The days are longer now though as we hurry home to more sunlight in the evening hours even if it is just a bit more it helps lift one's spirits that Spring may not be too far ahead to hope for a flower's bloom and the sweet song of a bird by our window. In the meantime, as we await the beauty of green grass and trees filled with leaves again, we can partake of the many activities that are around our town.
