The TCTC Presents: Pleasant People Day

Parent's are welcome in
second grade at St. Pats

Twice a month on Friday's the students in
Mrs, Leonard's second grade class can hardly control their excitement. They know that after lunch something special is going to happen. On these special Friday's the students participate in Parent Learning Centers. "Centers" as the students call them are afternoons filled with educational games that parents are welcome to participate in.
The learning centers consist of reading, phonics, math, science, art , and computer games that are fun and exciting for the students. Mrs. Leonard encourages parents twice a month to attend and participate in their child's education.
Recently a guest, Mrs. Zanderski from St. Steven's school in the Youngstown Diocese visited Mrs. Leonard's classroom. the veteran teacher came to observe Mrs. Leonard's techniques and learn new and exciting strategies she can implement in her own second grade classroom.

Feb. 29 doesn't come around very often and neither does the celebration that occurred at the Trumbull Career & Technical Center last Friday. We celebrated Pleasant People Day.
Unlike Memorial Day, Labor Day, Valentines Day and President's Day, it does not hold a place on the calendar, but there is no denying the positive impact that good -natured people have on our lives. As a general rule, these folks are givers. So on Feb. 29 with the support of Pizza Hut on Mahoning Ave, the TCTC gave something back. This is our story.
School is mostly about reading, writing and arithmetic. Students who excel in the classroom or the athletic field receive the majority of the accolades. Many of these students are also successful in academics and their program areas, but there recognition on Feb. 29 is not related to the quality of their report card. They excel in the human dimension.
Recently, staff members at the TCTC were asked to think about one student who best demonstrated the qualities of a pleasant person. These individuals smile and say hello, volunteer for service projects, accept constructive criticism, and treat others with respect and courtesy. Whether they are found in schools, the work place or in the community, most of us are glad to be around them. They brighten our day.
Friday, Feb. 29, Pizza Hut on Mahoning Ave. presented each of our honored students with a Personal Pan Pizza. Naturally, this brought a smile to their face, but what was so different about that? They usually have a smile on their face.
