national titles

The Girard TaeKwondo Association, GTA Karate, won the National Championship Award for the Professional Karate Commission or P.K.C. They were presented the award in Indiana at the National Champion.
Banquet held Sept. 1. Not only did GT A Karate win the School Title but they also had five National Champions. Cameron Resatar won for the six years old and under category, Caleb Johnson won for the seven-eight year old advance division, Sandra Sterchi won for the 17 and under Junior Black Belt Award, and Mike Kem won the 17 and under Novice Division Award. Jen Cannon won the Adult Women Black Belt Award. GTA Karate also won 33 Ohio State Titles and 4 Pennsylvania Titles. They will receive the State of Ohio Titles Feb. 23 at a dinner to be held at the Mahoning Country Club in Girard after an Ohio State PKC Tournament to be held at Girard High School beginning at 10 a.m. in the high school gymnasium.
GTA Karate has been open now in Girard for 12 years and has had well over 100 Ohio State Champions in the past six years. Since entering the PKC. GTA Karate has two2 locations at 22 West Liberty St. in Girard and 431 E. Liberty St. in Hubbard. GTA Karate is always looking for future champions. GTA also has a proven track record with students getting better grades in school by students improving skills in concentration, focus, better attention, self-control, and self-confidence. Students are encouraged also to give back to their communities by being involved individually and as a group in service projects. GTA Karate is one of the largest supporters of Easter Seals helping to raise thousands of dollars in past years. GTA Karate has been involved in after school programs at the multi-generational center to assist students in developing skills to enhance their learning in the classroom and to promote physical fitness and team work. GTA Karate has been said to be the "best kept secret in town" with great instructors available and reasonable prices for the whole family.

St. Patty's Day  Derby:
A Night at the Races

There will be a Night at the Races sponsored by the Girard City Survivors Friday, March 14. Doors open at 7 p.m. with Post time starting at 7:30 p.m.
The event will be held at the American Legion hall in Girard, 11 High St. SE.
Admission is $5 and will be paid at the door. The event is also B.Y.O.B. but they will provide food, draft beer and mixes.
