Congratulations are in order for Mr. Robert Williams, our high school biology teacher, for receiving the Channel 21, Class Act Award.
Secondly, as we prepare for the construction phase of our new schools, I would like the community to know that one of our benchmarks is maximum energy efficiency.  A school environment that includes favorable light, sound and temperature can improve student learning.  In addition, improving these attributes can also reduce energy cost.  In a study by Greg Kats,
Greening America's Schools: Costs and Benefits, improved indoor air quality, acoustically-designed indoor environments and high performance lighting systems demonstrated productivity increase of 2 percent to more than 25 percents in schools.
In some studies, day lighting, which uses the sun to produce glare free lighting can improve academic performance by as much as 20 percent.  Day lighting (sunlight) can lower electrical cost and reduce overall energy consumption.  We hope to use a combination of day lighting and energy-efficient electrical lighting systems to reduce visual strain, provide quality lighting and keep cost down.
Our new geothermal system will prove to be energy efficient and quiet, producing a comfortable, more productive learning environment.
We will be creating a cleaner, healthier indoor environment that creates lower student and staff absentee rates and improve staff retention.  All this translates into higher student achievement and lower staff cost.
Finally, everyone in our school system wishes our community a Happy Easter.  If you have any questions, please call my office at 330-534-1921 x1003.
