Student Art Show

NAMI and LifeLines
sponsoring training in April

The Trumbull County Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and Trumbull LifeLines the county's alcohol, drug addiction and mental health services board, are sponsoring their fifth Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training for law enforcement officers on April 2,3,4,9, and 10. The training program will be held at the Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority (first floor conference room), 4076 Youngstown Rd. in Warren from
8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. On Friday, April 10 the training will be held at Packard Music Center on Mahoning Ave. in Warren from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. where the Officers will do "Role Playing" with volunteer local actors following with a luncheon and Graduation ceremonies. CIT training is free and open to all county's law enforcement. For more information contact Dr. John Myers, at 330-675-2765, ext. 10.

Happy Wanderers meeting

Happy Wanderers will meet Friday, March 28 at noon, at the Corner House Christian Church, Hubbard, OH. Everyone is asked to bring a sack lunch. Coffee and tea will be provided. The program will be provided by the Rescue Mission Choir and the history of the mission will be given.
Serving as hospitality is Irene DeStasio, Jim & Ethelene Williams, and Bob Jailet. Greeters will be Joan Aeppli, Joyce Hillier, Wilma Quinn.
Everyone who is able is asked to bring paper products for the mission.
Those whose last names begin with A-L are asked to bring a pie. Pictures will be taken for the new pictorial directory that is being prepared.
Departure for the Carousel for "The King and I" on March 19 is at 10:30 a.m. (tickets are available). The group will also sponsor tours on April 15 to Cleveland for "Some Enchanted Evening-Pop Goes the Classics"; May 12 Buffalo and Niagara Falls Tour; June 18th Short Mystery Tour, July 25 and 26 to Lancaster for "In the Beginning" and "Abraham and Sarah." Easter Egg Hunt for Kids

The First Presbyterian Church is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 22 from 10:30 a.m-1 p.m. Please register you children by calling the church office at 330-534-9721. Friends and neighbors are welcome. Deadline for registration is Monday, March 17.

Trumbull County Educational Service Center held its Student Art Show Awards Ceremony on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at the Eastwood Mall Art Gallery. This annual event showcased more than 120 works of art created by more than 100 student artists in grades 9-12 from local high schools. The student artwork on display included photography, sculpture, ceramics, prints, drawings and paintings. Many of the works will be sold in a silent auction throughout the duration of the show.
Kevin Adams from Niles High School won the Best of Show award. He was selected by a jury of professional artists to receive a $500 scholarship to Youngstown State University and gift certificates for art supplies totaling $200.
In addition, three students were selected by the jurors to receive the Judge's Awards of Excellence, which were $100 art supplies gift certificates. Students receiving Judge's Awards were: Caitlin Delich, McDonald High School; Anna Montcalvo, Warren G. Harding High School; and Richie Peterson, Newton Falls High School.
Students receiving honorable mentions were: Nelson Reep, Bristol High School; Robert Songer, Brookfield High School; Alice Airhart, Howland High School; Frank Palestro, Hubbard High School; Jessica Reynolds, Hubbard High School; Kellie Kovac, John F. Kennedy High School; Catherine Latell, John F. The art show exhibit will continue in the Eastwood Mall Gallery, located in the J.C. Penney concourse of the mall, on the following dates and times: Fridays-March 14 and 21 from 5-9 p.m.; Saturdays -- March 15 and 22 from 1-9 p.m.; and Sundays -- March 16 and 23 from 1-5 p.m.
The March 9 evening event also featured a poetry reading. Students participating in the poetry reading throughout the evening were: Hannah Gillespie, Champion High School; Sarah Waldinger, Girard High School; Nikita Dhami, Howland High School; Megan Baird, Joseph Badger High School; Christopher Rapinz-Kesler, Lakeview High School; Shane McKinney, Liberty High School; Andrea Malys, Maplewood High School; Josh Rea, McDonald High School; and Lindsay Cameron, Southington Chalker High School.
The Trumbull County Educational Service Center provides educational leadership and instruction in the areas of curriculum development, special education and technology. The Center employs more than 200 teachers, therapists, psychologists, paraprofessionals and other specialists who work directly with approximately 3,500 students in 20 school districts. Hubbard High School Lady Eagles fastpitch clinic

A fastpitch clinic will be given by the HLE Softball Team and Coaches. The clinic is for ages 8 and older. The clinic will focus on Defensive and Offensive fundamentals, drills and techniques. It will be held Saturday, March 22 and 29 from 9 a.m.-noon, registration will be from 8:30-9 a.m. at the Hubbard High School Gymnasium.
