New and returning members of the Girard High School FIRST Robotics team participated in a week-long summer camp June 15-19 at the high school.
The students met for four hours each day and engaged in team-building and problem-solving activities and learned about FIRST Robotics, their team and its history, and explored all aspects of the team, from spirit and photography to welding and wiring. Every team member also learned to operate last year's team robot.
The camp was led by advisors Judy Barber and Ashraf Hadi and community volunteer Emil David. Warren G. Harding and Champion mentors Mike Mellott and Donnell Connor attended to learn more about Girard's successful summer program and they also assisted students as they moved through various stations. Team alumni Joe Bishop instructed students on updating the team's website.
The team will host a golf outing on July 18 at the Mahoning Country Club. To sponsor a hole or participate call (330) 545-5431, ext. 151.
