Arthritis exercise, Tai Chi, line dancing, and square dancing are now free of charge. New hours on Mondays will be 9 a.m.-8 p.m. The next trip to Mountaineer is March 11.

Free tax prep to begin at Niles SCOPE

The Niles SCOPE senior Center will be offering income tax preparation for the elderly and individuals with low income starting Friday, Feb. 1 and will continue every Wednesday and Friday until April 15. The hours are from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. NO appointment is necessary. There is no charge. All participants must bring a copy of their 2006 income tax return. If a 2006 tax return was not filed, a valid ID will be required.

Senior apartments
opening in Mineral Ridge

The opening of apartments for seniors at the Briarfield at The Ridge has been announced. Located at 3379 Main St. in Mineral Ridge, the apartment buildings are prepared to open on Feb. 1. Designed for independent living, the apartments will also offer weekly laundry and housekeeping, nurse health checks, and pharmacy services. Applications are being accepted at the main office at Briarfield at The Ridge. Information is available by calling 330-652-9901.

Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship winners

The Girard Knights of Columbus held their Free Throw Championship on Jan. 27. The following are the winners in their respective age groups: Boys, age 10-Benjamin Norman. Boys, age 11-Chayton Gilcher. Boys, age 12-Evan DelBene, Girls, age 12-Hailey Noufer. Boys, age 13-Tyler Alejars, Girls, age 13- Eloise Yates. Boys, age 14-Dante DelBene.

The menu for the Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs Nutrition Program for the first week of February is as follows:
Monday, Feb. 4-sliced turkey w/gravy, mashed yams, peas, bread stuffing, dinner roll, sweetened or unsweetened pears, milk.
Tuesday, Feb. 5-unbreaded veal patty with gravy, whole kernel corn, chopped spinach, garlic bread, sweetened or unsweetened peaches, milk.
Wednesday, Feb. 6-breaded fish, cheesy mashed potatoes, green beans, hamburger bun, apple juice, tartar sauce, milk.
Thursday, Feb. 7-chicken parmesan, broccoli cuts, cauliflower, whole wheat bread, sweetened or unsweetened apricot halves, milk.
Friday, Feb. 8-macaroni and cheese, diced carrots, unsweetened hot cinnamon applesauce, wheat bread, sweetened or unsweetened mandarin oranges, milk.
