Fifth Grade Science Fair Washington Elementary

The students of Mrs. Mary Buchenic's fifth grade science classes had their annual science fair recently. There were approximately 70 projects on display. The students did all research during their science classes. Mrs. K. DiCristofaro, fifth grade language arts teacher,  gave support to the students with writing their reports and bibliographies.
Mrs. Renee D'Andrea, fifth grade math, helped them plan the graphs that were needed to show their data. Parents of the students gave additional support at home with help doing the actual experiments and creating their display boards.
On the day of the judging, students were interviewed by two different judges about their knowledge and understanding of their projects. The judges results were tallied and used to place the students in various categories. Allison Dean won Best of Show. First place was taken by Kaj Beeler. Matthew Binion and Anthony Francione created a joint project that won second place. Jessica Danko and Katera Harris worked together on their project that tied with Brittany Russo's experiment for third place. Three students, Angelina Buford, Ben Hyder, and Elissa Park received a Superior rating. All of these students are eligible to take part in the YSU Science Fair that had to be postponed because of weather.
A special thanks goes out to the following judges for volunteering their time to come to Washington and spend time with our students:
Randy Fabrizio (Niles Wastewater Treatment Plant), Bruce and Sally Thomas (Retired Educator), Melissa Watson (Trumbull County Educational Service Center), Dr. David Ruggles (YSU), Trevor Balint (YSU), Sarah Ahren (Mayle Realty), Lou Tabor, Sr. (Retired Niles Educator and Administrator).
