Jesus is full of compassion
By Patty Scahill

It is hard to find someone today who is moved with compassion for another. I did not say it was impossible, but truly it is difficult. Usually people who are compassionate are individuals that have experienced tremendous struggles, trials or loss in their lives. These trials have caused life to look a little different, and to look at others in a little different light. Some are born with a compassionate spirit and enter a vocation that complements their nature. Overall, even the compassion we may possess has its limits and will never meet the total needs of a person. However, we have a compassionate Savior who is able to meet every need represented by society and provide for us what is needful in our times of struggle and hurt.
In Matthew 9:36 scripture says, "Seeing the people, He (Jesus) felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd." As Jesus was walking one day, He looked out among the people and saw the trouble and turbulence in their lives. He looked as crowds of people walked past Him and He saw what was in their hearts and the burdens they carried. In the Greek rendering of this scripture it reads that Jesus was moved with "bowels of compassion" for those he saw. Therefore, the word "compassion" in this portion of scripture means "to have pity, sympathy and to feel to the innermost part of your intestines, tender mercy and affection." Our God is moved with compassion towards us. He loves us with an everlasting love and understands our needs. He will help us, if we allow Him to do so.
Not only does He have compassion on us, He is the only One who is able to bring about the changes in our circumstances that affect our lives. I understand that we too have choices to make. Yes, but if we ask the Lord for His help in every part of our life, He will give us the wisdom to make the right choices. And there are those times, that even though we choose to make right choices, life can still cause us to be distressed and lose hope. It is in those times that we must choose to call on the Lord, Who is full of compassion and yearns to help us. The word distressed in the above passage means, "subject to great strain or difficulties." The word dispirited means, "to be depressed, discouraged and disheartened."  Sometimes life becomes this way for us. Maybe you are an exception, and you may say,  "not me." But, for most of us who will honestly admit life can be difficult.
Today, open your heart and life to Jesus Christ. Above all, know that you are not alone. He cares about you. He loves you and is concerned about your life. As His child, please know that no matter what circumstances you may find yourself in today, there is Jesus standing ready to help you. He is moved with compassion, not in judgment but in mercy. He is waiting for you to call on Him for help and He is the only God able to fulfill all that He promises you in His Word. Pick up the Bible today and begin a relationship with Him, the God of all compassion.  His Word never fails!
