announce Trumbull County 4-H Week

The Board of Trumbull County Commissioners met with 4-H members, advisors, parents, and 4-H Extension Educator Michelle Adkins, on March 6, 2008 to officially proclaim the week of March 3-9, 2008 as Trumbull County 4-H Week.  Meeting with the commissioners were community 4-H club members Sean Offerdahl, Lauren Thornton, Kirsten Hacker, Jenna DePizzo, Nathan Jackson, Chandra Kelley, Dan Parker, and Heather Wells.
The proclamation, honoring the 4-H program as an educational organization for boys and girls age 5 to 19 that is serves 673 members in Trumbull County through a wide variety of projects and learning experiences, was presented to 4-H by Commissioners Daniel E. Polivka, Frank S. Fuda, and Paul E. Heltzel. They stated in the proclamation that "Our children are one of our greatest assets and should be commended for the success they accomplish through the 4-H." This document will be placed on display at the Ohio State University Extension Office in Trumbull County.
4-H is being honored throughout the State because it makes a difference for youth, their families, and the community. 4-H offers young people learning experiences in more than 200 subject matters areas including, aerospace science, beef, cats, citizenship, clothing, forestry, home decorating, leadership, pet care, photography, shooting sports, veterinary science, woodworking, writing, and more.
The 4-H program utilizes four primary delivery methods to educate youth including community clubs and school enrichment, special emphasis clubs/activities, and camping programs. The program also utilizes adult volunteers.  These volunteers are an essential part of the overall 4-H program bringing to it their knowledge, expertise, excitement, and willingness to learn themselves!
4-H is open to all youth ages 5 to 19, as well as adult volunteers on a non-discriminatory basis without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, sex, age, handicap or Vietnam-era veteran status. The Warren Kiwanis Club recently welcomed its newest member and honored three longtime associates for their service to the organization.
Darrin Miller of Boardman, with Hill Barth & King LLC, was inducted into membership in Kiwanis during a special ceremony at the March 6 club meeting.  Miller was sponsored by Warren Club Secretary Ken Kimble.
Honored during that same meeting for their years of service to the Warren club were:
· Don Mills, Associated Chiropractic Center Inc.  joined in 1977
· Bill Sauer, retired, Warren Engineering - joined in 1952
· Dave Snyder, David R. Snyder, CPA - joined  in 1976
Warren Kiwanis President Donald Fatobene said, "We are pleased to welcome a new member on board.  Kiwanis is something so good that each of us wants to share it and invite others to join our organization.  Growing our club is one of my goals for the year."
"While we appreciate our new members," Fatobene said, "we continue to applaud longstanding members like Don, Bill and Dave who have given so much time and energy to our organization over the years.  Seasoned members such as these are truly the lifeblood of the organization, and we can't thank them enough for their service to their community through our club."

John F. Kennedy High School Senior Audrey Maheu recently signed her letter of intent to join the Kent State University Girls Track and Field Team under head coach William Lawson. Audrey has had an outstanding career at JFK, she placed 1st in the 800 meter run and anchored both the 4x800 meter and 4x400 meter relay teams which both placed third at the 2007 Division 3 State Track Meet. Audrey was also received All Ohio Honors during the 2007 Cross Country Season. Audrey is an Academic Letter winner and honors student and she is the daughter of Kelli and Lenny Maheu.

Cub Scout Pack 101 of Warren, Ohio held its Ninth Annual Pinewood Derby Sunday Jan. 27 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Warren. The Pinewood Derby originated in 1953 when Scout Leader
Don Murphy wanted to devise a wholesome, constructive activity that would foster a close family relationship and promote craftsmanship and good sportsmanship through competition.
