First Team 48-Delphi Elite brings home hardware

Delphi E.L.I.T.E. (Encouraging Learning in Technology and Engineering) Team 48 from Warren G. Harding High School recently traveled to Chicago, Illinois to compete in the FIRST Midwest Regional. After competing for three days against 41 other teams, Delphi ELITE seeded fifth (with a 7-2-1 record). The team also brought home the Johnson and Johnson Gracious Professionalism Award and the Underwriters Laboratory Industrial Safety Award.
The Johnson and Johnson Gracious Professionalism award celebrates outstanding sportsmanship on and off the playing field. This award is decided on by the teams that participated in the Midwest regional and they chose Team 48 because of their willingness to help in any situation and their outstanding safety program for other teams. The Underwriters Laboratories Industrial Safety award celebrates the team that goes beyond safety fundamentals. The team will use creative means to eliminate or protect against hazards. The winning team also demonstrates excellence in industrial safety performance that shines throughout the competition from uncrating to re-pack. Delphi ELITE exceeded expectations and is said to take safety as seriously as the competition its-self.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics is an International robotics competition that gives high school students an opportunity to learn about science and technology through building a robot capable of completing a few complex tasks with and against other teams in a roughly two-minute match. Each team is given 6 weeks to build a robot from a common kit of parts after it receives the new mission from FIRST in January. Delphi ELITE will be competing March 14th and 15th at the Pittsburgh Regional. The event will be held at the University of Pittsburgh's Peterson Event Center in Pittsburgh, PA . The team then travels to the Buckeye Regional at Cleveland State Universities' Wolstein Center. The Buckeye Regional runs March 21st and 22nd. These events are open to the public and everyone is encouraged to take a peek at how FIRST is changing high school students everywhere.

The Home Builders/Remodelers Association of Mahoning Valley hosted its 8th Annual Housing Awards of Excellence Feb. 26 at The Georgetown in Boardman. The Annual Housing Awards of Excellence Program is designed to distinguish the "best of the best" in the construction industry from one another. Judges from New Castle School of Trades, Youngstown State University, and Kent State Trumbull evaluated, critiqued, and scored the entries.
Those individual companies that won an award has taken pride and a commitment to building new homes, remodeling, decorating, recreation design, audio/visual technology, landscaping, and pool design with the expert craftsmanship and attention to detail that consumers expect. 2008 HBA President Paul Dieter of PMD Builders says, "The Awards of Excellence Program recognizes some of the best contractors in our Industry. The number of different winners is indicative of how many quality contractors there are right here in the Mahoning Valley."
