The League of Women Voters of Trumbull County honored Miriam Fife, Victim Rights Advocate, at a recent Town Hall meeting held at the Jewish Community Center in Liberty.
Mrs. Fife was recognized as an individual who has made a positive impact. She chose to get involved and to become civically engaged and by doing so helps to make our community stronger. Her willingness to speak on behalf of the under-served in Trumbull County and her tireless efforts to encourage victims of crimes to find a voice of their own and a place at the community table over the years is well known. She has worked as a Courtroom Advocate in the Victim/Witness Program since 1989. At the personal urging of John Walsh (America's Most Wanted host), Miriam started up a local chapter of Parents of Murdered Children in the late 1980's and has served several terms as their president. For Parents of Murdered Children, she participated in the national Day of Remembrance in Washington, DC just this year. Miriam personally testified before the Ohio House Judiciary Committee to expand victims' rights to juvenile court proceedings.
The Town Hall meeting was also co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown, the League of Women Voters of Ohio, the Trumbull & Mahoning County Bar Associations, Kent State University Trumbull Campus and Youngstown State University.
