It was Feb. 26, and the students in Mrs. McHenry's classes at Learning Friends Preschool took a field trip to Dr. Davenport's dental office in Cortland. There the children were welcomed by the friendly, helpful staff and were able to see what takes place at the dentist's office. The classes learned about proper oral hygiene by practicing their brushing and flossing skills and were taught that by eating the right foods, they can build strong bones and teeth, while sugary foods can be especially harmful to their teeth. The children each received a "treat bag" upon leaving the dentist which contained a toothbrush, toothpaste, pencil, etc. As a special treat, Mrs. McHenry took her classes to the Cortland Dairy Queen afterward. There the children were given a tour by the owner, Mr. Curt Bush. He showed them the walk-in refrigerator where the extra supplies were kept and also where all of the ice cream fixings were displayed. He demonstrated how the ice cream machines worked which was fascinating to all of the little ones! Finally, it was time to enjoy a little ice cream! Yumm!!! Thank you so much, Dr. Davenport and Mr. Bush. Your kindness, generosity and patience will long be remembered!!

On Saturday, March 1 Learning Friends Preschool held their 3rd annual "Family Fun Day" at the school. There was a record turnout for this exciting, fun-filled day! The children were able to enjoy the 5,000 sq. ft. indoor play area where there were numerous toys with which they could play as well as an inflatable bounce-around to jump in. Another room was dedicated to games where the kids could move around and have some fun with one another and win prizes on top of that! If the children were feeling artistic, they could try their hand at making a craft in the arts and crafts room. Who could forget about the wonderful storytellers that were on hand--Lakeview Superintendent, Robert Wilson; Lakeview Head Coach, Tom Pavlansky; and Trish Fatobene from the Warren Trumbull County Public Library, to name a few!! Parents, grandparents and caregivers were happy to take advantage of the Ohio State Patrol's free child identification kits which included fingerprinting. They, along with Bazetta Fire/Police, were on hand also to offer free car seat safety checks. Some of the favorite activities for the children were the face painting and, of course, Porgie the Clown, who was thrilled to entertain the children with his comedy act and balloon sculptures! Plenty of food was available from hot dogs to walking tacos! Everyone had a chance to purchase fun learning tools from Holcomb's as well as purchase tickets for the basket raffles. All in attendance at Learning Friends that day were in agreement on one thing-- it was a terrific cure for cabin fever! Don't forget to put "Family Fun Day" on your calendar for next year!
