Please show your support for the Kaluza family
Joseph Kaluza was the manager of a Kentucky Fried Chicken, going about his daily routine, when two people deliberately set him up, all for $300 bucks. Now, Kaluza is paralyzed from the neck down. Life for the Kaluza family has changed. A proud father of two handicapped children, Joseph is now left a paraplegic. Kaluza was shot in the neck for a lousy $306 he was going to deposit from the Kentucky Fried Chicken he managed. Doctors say Joseph will never walk again. With all they're going through right now, the Kaluza family could use your financial help. If you would like to donate money to help with their medical costs, you can do so at any Huntington Bank Branch. Just tell them you'd like to give to the Joseph Kaluza fund. To date, $18,000 has been donated by the community to help the Kaluza family. Money has been raised through Boy Scout and hair cut fund raisers, as well as having a Kaluza Day at the KFC on South Ave. in Boardman where all proceeds that day were donated to the family. Both suspects in the robbery/shooting have been arrested. The Kaluza family is going through a difficult time, any help and support can only brighten the spirits of the family.

After successfully competing in both the regional and state competitions, Joseph Badger Middle School Destination ImagiNation team is advancing to the global competition at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, May 20-24. The Badger Middle School/High School team "Obstacles, of Course" which placed first in the Regional competition and second in the State, is the first team from Badger to reach the Globals. Having worked together as a team for the past six years, "they are unbelievably excited," said team manager Rose Steffy. "These kids have come so far in those years, and if they stick with this, it is going to be an amazing benefit to them in future." Destination ImagiNation (DI) is a program that allows students to apply critical-thinking skills to solve challenges, while learning to work together and push the limits of their imagination and creativity. Teams of five to seven students work to solve a team challenge, which incorporates school subjects such as design, science, and research. ings, and Sam Timko, "it isn't about winning (although, that's pretty cool!), it is about the experience you get" they said, "and it's fun creating something that works!" Traveling and participating in the event is going to cost $8,000 to $10,000, which includes team registration, transportation, room and board, and other expenses. Team members, family and friends will participate in fund-raising efforts, and are in the planning stages of coming up with fun ways to earn money. There are teams from 50 states and 41 countries participating in the event, and 32 teams are from Ohio. Destination ImagiNation goes beyond the classroom because it challenges students to think critically, to work together as a team, to think on their feet, and to utilize their individual talents and creativity. They learn to capitalize on each other's ideas, and they also learn the skills necessary to present to an audience. To make a donation to the Badger School team, or for more information, contact Rose Steffy at 330-219-2884 or Robin Timko at 330-727-2878.

The new addition to the Women's Park in downtown Warren arrived last Friday. She's a beautiful young woman holding a book behind her to represent all women and their dreams. The park is a perfect setting with benches around the area so one can come sit and think of all the inspiring women that have touched so many lives. There will be an official dedication of the statue on May 18th at 2 p.m. with refreshments following at the Upton House. The park is sponsored and kept up by the Upton House Association members.
