Kent Trumbull Distinguished Alumni to Be Recognized
On Friday, April 25, the Kent State University Trumbull Campus will announce its first class of Distinguished Alumni Award honorees as part of Founders Day. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. in the Technology Building Rotunda to recognize the following individuals: Michael Beers, New Albany, OH, will be recognized as an Outstanding Recent Alumnus because of the success he has achieved in less than 10 years since graduating. He holds the position of Vice President - Wealth Advisor with Morgan Stanley in Columbus. He began his education at the Kent State Trumbull Campus and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing in1999 at the Kent campus. After Jeanne Bryner, Newton Falls, OH, completed the Kent Trumbull - Trumbull Memorial Hospital Nursing program, she began to feel a need to write about the dedicated people in the profession. So in 1986 she enrolled at the Trumbull Campus once again to pursue an English degree. She graduated in 1996 from the Honors College and has had numerous poems and books published, including Tenderly Lift Me: Nurses Honored, Celebrated, and Remembered. From his days playing basketball, baseball and flag football at the Kent Trumbull Campus as well as being a charter member of the Independent Black Minority Coalition (IBMC), Richard Emerson of Warren, OH, has remained a leader in the community. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in 1976 in Political Science. He has 38 years with the Howland Township Police Department, and he has also served as a high school athletic official. Gary Soukenik, president of Seven Seventeen Credit Union, took classes and played on the tennis team at the Trumbull Campus and completed his bachelor in business administration degree at Kent in August 1976 in Management Science. A resident of Howland, he has been with Seven Seventeen for 30 years, and at the helm since 1980, helping the credit union become the third largest in Ohio while also implementing various financial education and counseling programs. After attending the Kent State Trumbull Campus, Gordon B. Wean received a B.A. from Yale University and a J.D. from The Ohio State University College of Law. He practiced law in Warren before accepting a position to teach English at University School in Hunting Valley, OH. Currently, he resides in Cleveland Heights and chairs the board of The Raymond John Wean Foundation. The public is welcome to attend the first Kent Trumbull Founders Day Celebration.
