Park Vista Receives Excellence in Recycling Award
Summer Concerts on the lawn Park Vista Retirement Community was presented with the "Excellence in Recycling Award" by Jim Petuch, Director of Youngstown Litter Control & Recycling Green Team, at a resident luncheon held on April 21, the day before Earth Day. "Park Vista was the first business of its kind to be involved in a recycling program," said Mr. Petuch, who praised Park Vista for its three-year involvement in the Mahoning County recycling program for businesses. "You should be very proud of the management here for being willing to make the effort to get involved," he told the residents. The award presented by Petuch said: "In recognition for the highest standards of recycling which contributes to the quality of the environment in Mahoning County." He reported Park Vista is diverting about 1.3 tons of materials per month from landfills. "You are helping us reach our goal of a 25 percent diversion rate," he said. According to Petuch, recycling solid waste generates more than $30 billion per year in related jobs: "Recycling programs not only help protect the environment, conserve natural resources and save energy costs, they are also creating American jobs." Mr. Petuch also announced that the Green Team will be opening nine new recycling centers and will begin accepting more material for recycling at the curb and drop off locations. New materials now being accepted include plastic bags, plastic ware such as eating utensils, junk mail, shredded paper, tissue/wrapping paper, and greeting cards.

NEOS is coming to Mosquito Lake State Park on May 24, 25, 26 (Memorial Weekend) Bring your family to the beach and see this unique new product bringing gaming to the outdoor play space. The idea behind this interactive game was to get children away from the TV electronic games and get them outdoors. NEOS was created to bring families and the community outdoors where they can actively have fun together. Remember: NEOS is only here Memorial Weekend, but it is something, we feel could be enjoyed by many in the community if it was permanent. So invite Corporations to come and take a look at NEOS during this weekend demonstration and see if you would like to help sponsor the purchase of this outdoor electronic game so the community can enjoy it year round. If you have any interest or know someone that may have an interest in becoming a sponsor, please call the park office at 330-637-2856.
