Nominations for 2nd annual Safety Leadership Award
The Regional Chamber's Mahoning Valley Safety Council (MVSC), in conjunction with sponsor City Machine Technologies, Inc. in Youngstown, is now accepting nominations for the 2nd annual Joan Kovach Safety Leadership Award, recognizing a company that has shown itself to be a leader in safety training, operations, funding and communications. This Safety Leadership Award is named in honor of Joan Kovach, who together with her husband, Michael J. Kovach, Jr., started, owned and operated City Machine Technologies, Inc. since 1985, but who died suddenly in a hiking accident on July 16, 2006. Nominees may be from private, non-profit or public sectors; must be a MVSC member in good standing and a company in good standing with the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation; nominations must be for operations in Columbiana, Mahoning or Trumbull counties. Previous Safety Leadership Award nominees are eligible for re-nomination; previous Safety Leadership Award recipients are not eligible for nomination. The following qualifying factors will be used to judge all nominees: Visible, active senior management leadership, employee involvement and recognition, medical treatment and return-to-work practices, communication, timely notification of accidents/claims, safety and health process coordination, written orientation and training, written and communicated safe work practices, written safety and health policy, record keeping and data analysis and length of membership in the Mahoning Valley Safety Council and similar safety organizations. The nomination form may be found on the MVSC web page on the Regional Chamber's website at www.regionalchamber.com/safetycouncil.html. The MVSC Executive Committee, comprising safety professionals from 10 private companies and two Bureau of Workers' Compensation representatives, will review nominations, which will be accepted from March 1 to March 31, 2008. The Safety Leadership Award will be presented at the May 7, 2008, MVSC Safety Awards Luncheon.
