Canfield Community Concert Band performs at Old North

The Canfield Community Concert Band is presenting a special "indoor park" concert Sunday, March 9,  at 4 p.m. at the Old North Church, 7105 Herbert Rd. in Canfield. Admission to the concert will be canned goods or cash donations to benefit Operation Blessing.
Operation Blessing is a volunteer group started over 20 years ago through Canfield churches that provides food to needy families in Mahoning County. They distribute food once a month, and provide special Christmas meals.
The concert will feature Josh Hawkins and Patrick Julian performing the Concerto in B Flat for Two Trumpets by Vivaldi and Leann Rich performing the first movement of the Oboe Concerto No. 3 in g minor by G.F. Handel. The CCCB Woodwind Quintet will perform Can Can by Jacques Offenbach and the whole band will present Toccata by Girolamo Frescobaldi; Irish Tune from Country Derry by Percy A. Grainger; Eternal Father Strong to Save by Claude T. Smith; selections from Glen Miller; and upbeat marches.
The Canfield Community Concert Band was formed in 1976 for the purpose of providing music in Canfield's first Fourth of July Parade. Beginning with 12 members in 1976 the band has grown into a concert band averaging 55 performers from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties.
The Band performs throughout the year at several area nursing homes, and during the summer months at various locations including Austintown Township Park, Firestone Park in Columbiana and on the Canfield Village Green. Two benefit concerts in March and December assist Operation Blessing, a church organization that provides food to needy families in Mahoning County.
Members of the band are of all ages-from high school freshmen to a 90 something drummer-and come from various professional backgrounds. The only requirement is a passion for your instrument and a desire to produce the best musical product possible.
The band rehearses every Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Canfield High School band room. Rehearsals are held year-round with two breaks: early August to mid-September; and mid-December to mid-January.
