Steel Town Studios displays Youngstown Mural

Steel Town Studios will display "Here in Youngstown," Bob Barko Jr.'s 24-foot by 6-foot, 6-paneled traveling mural depicting a visual history of Youngstown, Ohio at the opening reception of Art Youngtown Inc.'s "Exhibition in the Great Room" to be held in the Ohio One Building downtown. The reception will be held Friday, March 14,
7-10:30 p.m.
The new 12 x 36 full color photo print of the mural will be available for purchase. The mural prints will be available for purchase ($20 each) at Steel Town Studio's display. Over 250 of this new print have been sold since Thanksgiving 2007.
Artist Bob Barko Jr. will be on hand to sign prints, talk with guests about his artwork and the "Here In Youngstown" mural.
"I am thrilled to team up with Art Youngstown for this new and exciting show. As an artist who has made downtown his home for over seven years, it is great to be a part of the city's newest art organization's latest event," said Barko, local artist and owner of Steel Town Studios.
"Here In Youngstown" is a visual history of Youngstown, Ohio from 1796 to the present day including local icons such as John Young, Idora Park, Isaly's, the steel mills, the Warner Brothers, William Holmes McGuffey, Volney Rogers, P. Ross Berry, Maureen McGovern, Bernie Kosar, Jim Tressel, "Dike" Beede, Bernie Kosar, Mayor Jay Williams, Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik and many more. The work also depicts a variety of local landmark buildings including the Chevy Centre and products from the valley including Good Humor, R.B.'s (Arby's), Schwebel's as well as historic area newspaper, TV and radio outlets.
Art Youngtown Inc. is a non-profit organization formed for the purpose of enhancing the community through artistic expression.

Happy Wanderers meeting

Happy Wanderers will meet Friday, March 28 at noon, at the Corner House Christian Church, Hubbard, OH. Everyone is asked to bring a sack lunch. Coffee and tea will be provided. The program will be provided by the Rescue Mission Choir and the history of the mission will be given.
Serving as hospitality is Irene DeStasio, Jim & Ethelene Williams, and Bob Jailet. Greeters will be Joan Aeppli, Joyce Hillier, Wilma Quinn.
Everyone who is able is asked to bring paper products for the mission.
Those whose last names begin with A-L are asked to bring a pie. Pictures will be taken for the new pictorial directory that is being prepared.
Departure for the Carousel for "The King and I" on March 19 is at 10:30 a.m. (tickets are available). The group will also sponsor tours on April 15 to Cleveland for "Some Enchanted Evening-Pop Goes the Classics"; May 12 Buffalo and Niagara Falls Tour; June 18th Short Mystery Tour, July 25 and 26 to Lancaster for "In the Beginning" and "Abraham and Sarah." Ursuline High School to sponsor 18th annual Wake-A-Thon

Ursuline High School will sponsor the 18th Annual Wake-A-Thon for the homeless beginning on Saturday, April 12th at 7:30 p.m. and concluding on Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m. Co-sponsored by the Ursuline High School Home and School Association and the Ursuline High School Student Council, the event raises funds for the area homeless. Since its inception, the Wake-A-Thon has raised over $190,000.
Persons interested in contributing to this worthy cause may make their donation directly to an Ursuline student or donations may be mailed to Wake-A-Thon, Ursuline High School, 750 Wick Ave. in Youngstown.
