Youngstown rock photographer to exhibit work
Local rock photographer Katie Libecco will be displaying her work in the Oakland Center for the Art's Star Gallery for their production of "Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead." The exhibit, "Their Song, Their Scene," showcases musicians, venues and familiar faces from the Mahoning Valley. Members of bands like The Zou, First in Space, We Famous, Relic and Bob's Country Bunker are featured in the photographs. The more than 30 poster-sized and 8-by-10 photographs are futurist color metallic prints. "I want people to understand how beautiful the local culture and music scene is here," Libecco said. "I'm trying to convey how vibrant our culture is with these photographs. Digital photography has given me the ability to capture these beautiful moments in time to share with others." The photographs were shot with a Nikon digital camera over the past year. Movement is captured with one- to 10- second exposures. Further motion was added through camera movement, though no further manipulation was done to the photographs after the exposure was made. Libecco is a graduating senior at Youngstown State University, double majoring in journalism and telecommunications with a minor in photography. She is also a writer, photographer and videographer for Vindy.com and local entertainment Web site, Valley24.com. Libecco graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 2004. "Their Song, Their Scene" will be available for viewing before productions of "Dog Sees God" March 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 28, and 29 at 8 pm, and March 16 at 2 pm. The artist's reception will be prior to the performance of "Dog Sees God" on Friday, March 21. The reception will begin at 6 p.m. and commence when the show begins at 8 p.m. The Oakland is located at 220 West Boardman Street in downtown Youngstown.
