Prepare to be an American Red Cross Instructor
The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross is offering FIT (Fundamentals in Teaching) at the Jewish Community Center in Youngstown, Sunday March 30 from 10:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m. There is no prerequisite for this training. FIT is the required first module in becoming a certified American Red Cross Instructor in Babysitter Training, CPR/AED/1st Aid, Lifeguard Training, Water Safety Instructor or Pet 1st Aid. Upon successful completion graduates will hold a certificate making them eligible to enroll in any Red Cross Instructor Course over the next 12 months. My Heritage workshop at Youngstown Historical
The Youngstown Historical Center will host "My Heritage" a Junior Girl Scout Badge workshop on March 22 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at 151 W. Wood St. in Youngstown. Learn How to Spot Severe Storms and Tornadoes
Mahoning County Skywarn, a volunteer organization of weather spotters will be conducting training on how to recognize approaching storms and tornadoes. This will be an interesting and informative presentation. Gary Garnet, Warning Coordinator Meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Cleveland, will conduct the training Wednesday, March 26, 6 p.m.. at the Austintown Fitch High School Auditorium, 4560 Falcon Drive, Austintown, Ohio 44515. Training is free and open to the public.

Ursuline High School to sponsor 18th annual Wake-A-Thon
Ursuline High School will sponsor the 18th Annual Wake-A-Thon for the homeless beginning on Saturday, April 12th at 7:30 p.m. and concluding on Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m. Co-sponsored by the Ursuline High School Home and School Association and the Ursuline High School Student Council, the event raises funds for the area homeless. Since its inception, the Wake-A-Thon has raised over $190,000. Persons interested in contributing to this worthy cause may make their donation directly to an Ursuline student or donations may be mailed to Wake-A-Thon, Ursuline High School, 750 Wick Ave. in Youngstown.

I.H.M. Senior citizens meeting
Immaculate Heart of Mary Senior Citizens will hold their monthly luncheon meeting and Saint Patrick's Day of Recollection Thursday, March 27. Mass is at 11 a.m. in the church with Father William Petrunak as celebrant. Lunch will follow at noon in the Parish Center. The guest speaker is Lynn Zocolo from Mill Creek MetroParks. YSU oral history project looking for interviews
September 19, 1977, Black Monday, was the beginning of the end of the steel industry in Youngstown and the surrounding area. Dr. Donna DeBlasio's oral history class at YSU is conducting interviews about this historic event. They are looking for folks who lived and worked in steel and/or supporting industries. They want to record these stories for posterity. Anyone who felt the impact of the mill closings is invited to contact Dr. DeBlasio. Lanterman's Mill to reopen for the 2008 season
Lanterman's Mill in Mill Creek Park, off of Canfield Rd. in Youngstown will reopen on April 5 for weekends only from noon-4 p.m. On April 29, the Mill will resume full summer hours, Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and weekends and holiday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. To book school or group tours, call 330-740-7107 to make arrangements for barrier-free access call 330-740-7115.
