At the May 5 meeting of the Austintown Growth Foundation, Detective- Sargeant,  Raynor Holmes, from  the Austintown Police Department,  and member of the Falcon Forward Campaign spoke to the group about the importance of promoting athletics in schools.
A year ago, a committee was formed by Joe Nohra from Austintown Schools to see what could be done to improve and repair the athletic area that could not be funded by taxes from the community. The committee consisted of Detective Holmes, Tom Mock, Ken Jacubec, and Lisa Oles. The goal was to upgrade the concession stands, pressbox, restrooms, storage and locker rooms for the students.
The committee has spoken to and contacted many groups, businesses, individuals, and organizations to try to raise the $700,000 that is needed for completion of the update. June 4 has been selected for the groundbreaking for the field and part one of the concession stand, locker room and storage facility. The group is half-way to  their goal.
Donations can be made by calling Ken Jakubec at 330-651-0329 or sending checks to Falcon Forward Campaign, 5060 Argonne Drive, Austintown, Ohio 44515.

The Youngstown processing center added some new faces to its workforce Thursday, April 25 as 13 children joined their parents and grandparents as part of Bring Your Child to Work day.
The children began their day with breakfast and a greeting by manager Greg Murdock, welcoming them to the office. After breakfast, the children personalized their name tags and designed t-shirts. All of the shirts were creatively decorated with paints and included dinosaurs, balloons, palm trees, sports themes, and girls rock themes.
The children then enjoyed a slice of pizza and chips provided by the Youngstown IAWP chapter.
After lunch, it was time to shadow their parent or grandparent in the office. Children were given tasks such as labeling file folders, sorting mail, and filing. The highlight of their day was the shredding paper through the shredding machine.
Before leaving for the day, the kids were given gift bags loaded with goodies. The day was a lot of fun for both children and adults. Maybe some are future employees at ODJFS.
