Fundraiser event to benefit Dobbins Elementary School
Dobbins Elementary School has a need for updated, safe playground equipment for the children attending to use. The school equipment is used by the elementary students attending there, but also by families using the adjoining fields for soccer, baseball and football. A group of concerned parents started the Dobbins Playground Renovation Committee to raise awareness and funds to update the equipment, benches and surfacing for the playground. Thus far, through the hard work of committee members selling mums and haystacks, raffling off custom made "Corn-Hole" games and a special grant from the very generous Tony Lariccia, the committee has been able to raise funds to replace a couple of benches and swings. There are more funds needed to update other equipment and Safety Surfacing for the playground. "The playground is one area that people assume that is taken care of by tax dollars, but this isn't the case," Deborah Masluk, Renovation Committee Co-Chair pointed out recently at a meeting. The Committee is holding a benefit dinner Sunday, March 9 from 1-3 p.m., to be hosted by Outback Steakhouse at the Poland Seminary High School Cafeteria. This dinner is on a first come-first serve basis, as tickets are already being sold. There are only 250 tickets available and seating will be limited. (Carry-out will be available.) The cost for tickets is $20 which includes dinner, drinks, dessert and family entertainment. The event will include a silent auction, a Chinese auction and a 50/50 raffle..
