Albert Alexander of A.R.A. Inc. Bath  and Kitchen Remolding won the HBA's highest remodeling award for the second time in four years. At the Presidential Installation Dinner in January, he received the Vern Ostovich Remodeler of the Year Award. He was selected as the recipient of this award because dealings not only with customers, but also with other members of the HBA and the community. He has the desire to help ensure the success of HBA projects and events with his contributions.
Over the years, Albert has received various other HBA Awards including the "HBA Awards of Excellence" honor for various completed projects in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. The Awards of Excellence Program recognizes distinction, craftsmanship and design in construction and Chairman for the past three years. He has also been an HBA Board Member since 2005. He has been a member of the HBA for seven years.
HBA Executive Director Terry Abrams says, "Albert is devoted member and leader of our association. He represents and upholds the values and ethics that all HBA Members stand for in their daily business."

HBA Announces Housing Awards of Excellence Winners

Joyce E. Brooks earns OSBA award

Joyce E. Brooks, a member of the Mahoning County Educational Service Center and Mahoning County Career & Technical Center school boards, will be presented the Ohio School Boards Association's Award of Achievement at one of the association's regional spring conferences.
The conference will be held at Maplewood Career Center in Ravenna on Wednesday, March 19.
The Award of Achievement is given to school board members in recognition of their commitment to training and leadership activities on their boards of education and region and statewide OSBA activities.
The Ohio School Boards Association is in its 53rd year of service to public education and represents the state's public school boards.  OSBA's services include:  management consulting, continuing education through training programs and workshops, policy development, legal services, legislative initiatives, management services, superintendent and other executive searches, information, technology, employee relations and communications.
Joyce Brooks has been a member of the Mahoning County Career & Technical Center Board since 1998 and has served as its President.

The Home Builders/Remodelers Association of Mahoning Valley hosted its 8th Annual Housing Awards of Excellence Feb. 26 at The Georgetown in Boardman. The Annual Housing Awards of Excellence Program is designed to distinguish the "best of the best" in the construction industry from one another. Judges from New Castle School of Trades, Youngstown State University, and Kent State Trumbull evaluated, critiqued, and scored the entries.
Those individual companies that won an award has taken pride and a commitment to building new homes, remodeling, decorating, recreation design, audio/visual technology, landscaping, and pool design with the expert craftsmanship and attention to detail that consumers expect. 2008 HBA President Paul Dieter of PMD Builders says, "The Awards of Excellence Program recognizes some of the best contractors in our Industry. The number of different winners is indicative of how many quality contractors there are right here in the Mahoning Valley."

Boardman Park holds
Senior Citizen Day

The Boardman Park Community Center held a Senior Day Program Thursday, Feb. 28 consisting of exercise, crafts, and blood pressure screening.
Lunch was served at 11:30 a.m. followed by bingo. The prizes were given by Boardman Park and Sater: Assisted living.
Alicia Stoner, social worker from Mahoning  County Senior Center handled the M.C. duties. John and Tricia, YSU interns, helped with the bingo and exercise.
The meetings are held the third and fourth Thursday of the month. The next meetings are March 20 and 27.
