Student Project Saves The District Hundreds! The Manufacturing Technology College Tech Prep class at Choffin Career & Technical Center was able to save the Youngstown City School District hundreds of dollars! The class was approached by a school board carpenter to manufacture twelve special steel plates to mount on four steel security doors on the gymnasium and cafeteria restroom entrances at Chaney High School. By installing the steel plates, Chaney can keep the extra restrooms locked during the school day and then open them for special event use only.
Samantha Gordon, a Manufacturing Technology senior, took on the project with great enthusiasm and pride. She designed the doors to have CHANEY cut into four 29 x 6 inch plates. Gordon is one of the top C.N.C. (computerized numerical control) programmers in the class.
