The Board of Trumbull County Commissioners met with 4-H members, advisors, parents, and 4-H Extension Educator Michelle Adkins, on March 6, 2008 to officially proclaim the week of March 3- 9, 2008 as Trumbull County 4-H Week.  Meeting with the commissioners were community 4-H club members Sean Offerdahl, Lauren Thornton, Kirsten Hacker, Jenna DePizzo, Nathan Jackson, Chandra Kelley, Dan Parker, and Heather Wells.
The proclamation, honoring the 4-H program as an educational organization for boys and girls age 5 to 19 that is serves 673 members in Trumbull County through a wide variety of projects and learning experiences, was presented to 4-H by Commissioners Daniel E. Polivka, Frank S. Fuda, and Paul E. Heltzel.  They stated in the proclamation that "Our children are one of our greatest assets and should be commended for the success they accomplish through the 4-H."  This document will be placed on display at the Ohio State University Extension Office in Trumbull County.
4-H is being honored throughout the State because it makes a difference for youth, their families, and the community.  4-H offers young people learning experiences in more than 200 subject matters areas including, aerospace science, beef, cats, citizenship, clothing, forestry, home decorating, leadership, pet care, photography, shooting sports, veterinary science, woodworking, writing, and more.
The 4-H program utilizes four primary delivery methods to educate youth including community clubs and school enrichment, special emphasis clubs/activities, and camping programs. The program also utilizes adult volunteers.  These volunteers are an essential part of the overall 4-H program bringing to it their knowledge, expertise, excitement, and willingness to learn themselves!
4-H is open to all youth ages 5 to 19, as well as adult volunteers on a non-discriminatory basis without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, sex, age, handicap or Vietnam-era veteran status.
