Earl receives Eagle Scout

Kevin James Earl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Evan and Deborah Earl, 344 Garfield Street, Newton Falls received the Eagle Scout Award at a Court of Honor held March 30, at Newton Falls Community Center. He is a member of the Western Reserve Council, Arrowhead District, Boy Scouts of America Troop #112 with Troy Booze as Scoutmaster.
The Eagle Charge was given by Kenny Dukes. The Eagle Award was presented to Kevin James Earl, by Cheryl SanFilippo who asked Mrs. Deborah Earl to pin the Badge on her son's uniform. A miniature Eagle pin was given to his mother by Kevin J. Earl. The Eagle Certificate was presented by Evan D. Earl to his son. Kevin then presented the father's pin to him. Kevin James then called up his grandfather, John Mosko, and presented him with the Mentor's pin for all of the help that he gave during the construction of his Eagle project. Kevin's Eagle Project was to construct an outdoor kiosk at Canoe City on North Leavitt Road in Leavittsburg for the Metro Parks. His project was fully funded by the Trumbull County Tourist Board.
Kevin joined Cub Scouts in October of 1997 with Pack #67 in Newton Falls, which is sponsored by the 1st Church of God. In October 2001 he joined the Boy Scouts. His Scouting leadership experiences included the following positions in his troop: Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Chaplain's Aids, Troop Guide, Librarian, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and finally, Senior Patrol Leader. In addition, he has worked on the following service projects: Cub Scout Winter Events, Community Service Clean up Day, Earthdays, and other Eagle Service Projects. His activities outside of Scouting include being the Manager for the Newton Falls Varsity and JV teams for the past 3 years, Ski Club of Newton Falls.
After the Court of Honor a reception was held at the Newton Falls Community Center. Members of the Court of Honor were: Troy Booze, Scoutmaster, Tina Craver, Treasurer; Cheryl SanFilippo, Advancements; Kenny Dukes, Senior Patrol Leader. Guests included members of Troop #112's committee, John and Jacqueline Mosko, Howard and Tracy Johnson, Jaime Tant, Emma Rose Earl, and RoseAnn Meehan.
After graduation from Newton Falls High School in May, Kevin James Earl plans on attending Pittsburgh Technical Institute in October 2008 for the Safety and Security Course. He will attend PTI for 2 years and then enter the military. He plans to earn his Masters in Criminal Justice and then apply for the FBI, CIA or the NSA.

Historical Engine Society Spring Gas-Up

The Historical Engine Society will be holding their 5th Annual Spring Gas-Up May 17 and 18, at the Geauga County Fairgrounds in Burton, Ohio.  On display will be antique engines, tractors, cars, trucks, and other farm and industrial antiques.  On May 17 the Buckeye Pullers will be holding a garden tractor pull at the show.  Admission to this event is $3 for adults and free for children 12 and under.  The show hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on May 17 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 18.

Trumbull County Master Gardener's Focus on Dahlias

Rodney Toth will present "Dahlias for the Home Garden and for Garden Show Competition at the May 15 meeting of the Trumbull County Gardeners. Training programs are open to the public and held at the OSU Agricultural Complex, 520 W. Main St. in Cortland.
"We encourage anyone with an interest in gardening to come out and meet other gardeners and to share in these educational opportunities," Kathleen Ferris, program chair said.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with light refreshments. The program runs from 10 a.m.-noon. Register for this workshop by calling 330-638-6783. The cost is $15.
"This is an excellent opportunity to learn the "ins and outs" of improving your flowerbeds," Ferris said.

LaBrae Little Vikings last registration for season

The LaBrae Little Vikings are holding its last registration for the upcoming Football and Cheerleading season. LaBrae students, returning football players and cheerleaders are invited (ages 6-12) to sign up on Friday, may 2 from 4-6 p.m. at Bascom Elementary School.
