Jackson Citizens Association Meets
At the April 28 Jackson Citizens' Association meeting members discussed various activities in the township. Reports on plans for the Memorial Day and July 4 Parades were reviewed. Members voted to make a donation to the July 4 Celebration. Plans are continuing for the Community Wide Yard Sales Days scheduled for August 1 and 2. Costs for advertising, printing, and port-a-potties are increasing. The group voted to keep the donation low at $5, but ask for an additional donation as able. The yard sales have been so successful the Citizens want to make them even better. All monies raised are put back into the community. More information will be forthcoming when plans are finalized. Betty Byram told of various achievements by students as well as the band earning another #1 rating at State Competition. Members heard the band will participate at the July 4 parade as well other organizations from the school. Several handouts were given on school matters. John Lengyl from a new organization called PRIDE described activities and goals. It is a group getting together to enjoy local activities, not just a "support the levy" committee. Trustees have hired Attorney Mark Finamore to assist in some legal matters for Jackson Township. Many certified letters notifying property owners of zoning violations have been mailed. The noxious weed ordinance was enacted at the last trustee meeting. Trustees approved a zoning amendment, which changed zoning from Industrial to ASER or Residential-1 in the Silica, Gladstone, Pritchard-Ohltown Rd. areas. One property owner was against the change but has the option to request a change should there be a need. Residents noted several roads, which need repair. The overflowing recycling bins are a problem. Four Wheelers are an ongoing concern in which the police are addressing. Community Pride Day is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 17 at the fire building. Memorial Day observances will begin Monday May 26 with brief ceremony at the Vietnam Monument at the school at 8:45 a.m., then step off for the parade to the cemetery at 9 a.m.. The next meeting of the Citizens' Association will be a week early, May 19, at the Governmental Building at 7 p.m.. Any resident is welcome to be a part of the organization. Dues are ten dollars per person and spouse.
