There are 3 major issues that are affecting the electronics industry and consumers at this point in time.  The first is the conversion to digital television which only affects those people who have either an outdoor antenna or an indoor antenna (commonly referred to rabbit ears). They will have to purchase a converter box that will take a digital signal and convert those signals to the analog format to run on their current televisions. The boxes range in price from $49.95 to $79.95 depending on features.
For those on antennas there are two coupons available worth $40.00 each towards the purchase of two boxes. Coupons can be requested four ways: 1. Apply online at www.DTV2009.gov. 2. The second issue is the demise of the HD-DVD Player and the subsequent change to HD-BluRay. The HD-DVD Player, although no longer viable does represent a great value for those that have them . One, being, they will up convert standard DVDs to 720P or 1080I HD signal. They also will play standard CD's. Also, NetFlix is still renting HD-DVDs although we are not sure for how long. This will help everybody going forward, because we will have only one format to pick from, although pricing may not change as fast because there is no competition.
The third issue is the speed of the HD LCD panels. If someone is a gamer or likes to watch fast moving, high picture content scenes. The standard LCD's tended to have a type of digital trail after the fast moving image. We will see more and more of the 120Hz true motion drive LCD panels with 14 bit color processors. As always the picture quality will continue to improve.
